The Environmental Science Division conducts a variety of activities that address renewable energy, and the required infrastructure and land resources to support new renewable energy. Geo-‐spatial analysis allows researchers to efficiently and cost-‐effectively understand and analyze complex spatial issues associated with renewable energy development. Geographic information system (GIS) technology and Remote Sensing (RS) are the enabling technologies to manage, visualize, present, share, analyze, and model spatial data. Visualizing complex data and analyses in a “mapped context” is an intuitive and effective way to share concepts and results and to collaborate with federal, state, tribal, and public stakeholders.
